Cargounit has taken delivery of the first three of the five Siemens Mobility Vectron MS locomotives which should be used by Beijing Trans Eurasia Logistics' subsidiary Bahnoperator.

Bahnoperator operates up to 26 East-West train connections between China and Europe per week and serves more than 24 destinations in Europe and 48 in China.

In 2019, the Industrial Division subsidiary Cargounit signed a contract with Siemens Mobility to supply five Vectron multi-system locomotives and to provide eight years of maintenance for these vehicles. The first three locomotives arrived in March. The remaining two locomotives are expected to arrive by the end of the third quarter of this year

The financing of the supply was provided by Siemens Financial Services and the order is also co-financed from the EU through the EU Centre for Transport Projects under the Intermodal Transport Development Programme.

Locomotives are designed to 6,4 MW under alternating electrification and 6,0 MW for DC current and are equipped with ETCS Baseline 3. They are intended for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary , Romania, Slovenia, Croatia and Bulgaria.

Maintenance will be carried out through the Railcover workshop network. Bahnoperator CEO Marcel Stein said this maintenance model "guarantees safety and professional complete service" so that the company "can 100% focus on our operational activities and further business development."

Siemens has now delivered Vectrons to more than 50 customers in 16 countries and more than 50 have been delivered to Polish operators such as Cargounit, DB Cargo Polska, PKP Cargo, Lotos Kolej and Laude Smart Intermodal.

Modernization and diversification

Cargounit has a rental fleet of almost 180 diesel and electric locomotives composed of locomotives for main traction and shunting types for domestic and international use, as well as some electric multiple units.

Other Vectrons were ordered as part of a strategy to modernise the portfolio and geographically diversify the services offered, said Łukasz Boroń, President of the Board of Directors

The leasing company's plans for the coming years foresee that there will be support programmes for existing Polish customers to support the replacement of older locomotives, as well as new customers acquired by the planned expansion in Central and Eastern Europe. "By 2025, Cargounit wants to expand its fleet with nearly 40 multi-system and single-system locomotives," he said.
