RAILTARGET presents you with an interview with Chris Carr, Head of Executive Office and Communication at ERA. It was recorded in the framework of the international trade fair Innotrans, which brought top managers of the railway sector to Berlin. Take a look at the throwback to the ERA's presentation at the fair and its agenda.

Could you introduce your company, please?

We are European Union Agency for Railways. We are a European Commission Agency, which means we work with EC and the sector organizations, the member states' organizations, to develop the legal framework that applies to rail. We look after the standards, for example, and develop safety modules that support the safe operations of railways. And in addition, we are also now an authority under the fourth railway package. We authorize the rolling stock, and we certify operators who operate across Europe. So are here to share that and meet with the stakeholders, and if they have questions, they are welcome to come and visit our stand.

And what did you come here with?

We are here to meet with the stakeholders. We have a number of pre-program meetings with them. They come with specific projects and want to meet with one of the experts to go through the details of their work and to try and solve some problems before they become big issues. We are also here supporting European Commission, so we have a number of meetings with international organizations beyond the EU borders. We want to exchange how we work, and how our system functions and then see if there's some way we can promote rail and collaborate with them.

Great! And how do you like this event?

I'm super happy with the event. It's so good to be back here after four years and to meet directly with people. We've had years of always being online with video conferencing, but missed the direct contact with people and I think it's been a really great event. It's good to see so many people here and so many organizations. It gives us an optimistic view of the rail.
