Last week, the railway administrator UTLC ERA carried out a test expedition of empty platform cars entirely with the help of an electronic consignment note. This test transport took place at the Brest intersection, from where the train will transport goods via Russia to nearby Kazakhstan to Dostyk / Altynkol stations.

This pilot project was the first step towards the transition to a full electronic transit consignment note format for the movement of goods both across the territory of the EAEU Member States and in the future across the Sino-European Corridor.

‘‘The transition to 1 520 mm electronic consignment note will be an additional incentive to support paperless technologies along the Sino-European route. Today, not only are we introducing pilot shipments of empty wagons at the company's service using an electronic consignment note, but we are taking further steps to move to an electronic transit consignment format for freight services on this line," said Alexey Grom, CEO of JSC, "UTLC ERA".

The electronic consignment note allows all participants in the transport method to exchange data and also to receive timely information about the location of the cargo along the entire route.

"The competitiveness of the international logistics chain depends to a large extent on the reliability and predictability of transport, which in turn is determined by the efficiency of data exchange, timeliness, and convenience of information obtained by transport participants and the reliability of this data. It is therefore no longer just a question of developing transport corridors but of developing digital transport corridors, where the basis of this process is an electronic consignment note," UTLC ERA representatives stated.
