The 14th VPI Symposium has kicked off in Hamburg, Germany, today, on December 9th, 2024, marking a crucial moment for the future of sustainable rail freight transport and the first major railway event of the year. The event, covered by the RAILTARGET editorial team, will unfold over the course of a day, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., attracting a diverse crowd of experts and enthusiasts alike.

This year's symposium will be particularly notable for its emphasis on transport policy issues and innovations in the rail freight sector. According to VPI, the event features an impressive lineup of speakers, including prominent figures from politics, associations, and member companies, including Malte Lawrenz (VPI), Corinna Salander (BMDV), Peter Westenberger (Die Güterbahnen / NEE), Maria Leenen (SCI), Michail Stahlhut (Hupac), Torben Jaeger (VTG), Peter Reinshagen (Ermewa),
Karsten Elstner (Kaminski), and Matthias Knüpling (VTG/UIP).

The morning sessions will be highlighted by talks on transport policy topics, with Corinna Salander from BMDV and Maria Leenen from SCI sharing their expertise, followed by the panel discussion Plans vs. Implementation for Growth in SGV. The afternoon sessions will shift focus to intermodal transport, specifically from the viewpoint of wagon keepers. The program will end with Matthias Knüpling's presentation on Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) updates.
