The topics of the IRFC 2022 conference are divided into three sessions, and RAILTARGET editors bring exclusive information on the content of the 2nd session. It will deal with interoperability and standardisation on railways. It will be moderated by ERA's Executive Director, Josef Doppelbauer.

Prague will become the European rail capital in autumn. The International Rail Transport Forum and Conference will take place in the Czech capital from 5 to 7 October. This important event for the railway sector will host several speakers from the Czech and international scene who will speak in three thematic sections of the conference. The first session will focus on the strategic direction of rail in the post-Covid era, the fulfilment of the Green Deal objectives and current needs related to the geopolitical situation. The third session deals with research and innovation.

The second section focuses on the topic of railway interoperability and standardisation, which is also one of the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council. The main question will be what interoperability actually means for railway development, how it helps it and how it brings possible obstacles. The whole session will be moderated by ERA Executive Director Josef Doppelbauer. The second session will be divided into three areas:

  • TSI revision cycle 2022, its meaning and implementation
  • The new generation of ERTMS - vision or reality?
  • Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) - a challenge for freight

In addition to the above-mentioned topics, the European ERTMS Coordinator Matthias Ruete (DG MOVE) or the Deputy Director General of ERMEWA SA, Cyrille Guyon, will make a presentation on the much-discussed topic of Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC). There will also be a presentation on the FRMCS concept, and AŽD, as one of the founding members of the ER JU, will indicate whether ERTMS is the ticket to the world of advanced traffic management technologies.

RAILTARGET is a media partner of the conference. So you can look forward to a lot of interesting contributions and discussions. In particular, the debate on the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) topic can be expected to be very lively. After all, it is one of the most vital topics for rail freight operators in the coming years.
