Under the motto "Everything you didn't know about the preparation of high-speed lines in the Czech Republic," the workshop dedicated to HSL has just started. Martin Švehlík, Deputy Director for Development, introduced the topic "HSL and Sustainable Regional Development." He revealed that evidence from abroad points to the decisive influence of local authorities on future development around HSL. High-speed lines represent an opportunity to stimulate economic growth. However, he said, investment in HSL alone will not guarantee maximum benefits. However, these can be significantly increased by a positive attitude of the local government and by setting the conditions for business and construction.
Jiří Merta, Deputy Director for Technology, presented the technical concept and interesting features of HSL to the expert audience. The operational speed of the HSL should be between 200 and 320 km/h, with a design speed of 350 km/h. These speeds aim to cover the route between Prague and Brno in less than an hour. The Deputy Director also commented on the possible issue of HSL maintenance on the railway superstructure, catenary and overhead lines, which, according to the information provided, should take about 4.5 hours, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Outside this area, work can then be carried out in traffic with the help of specialised centres every 100 km of HSL.

Marek Pinkava, deputy director for the preparation of the south region, discussed the adventures of the HSL Prague - Brno - Ostrava. The construction of HSL in this area passes through six regions and five statutory cities. Thus, cooperation with the regions has been going on from the very beginning, when the objectives for each region are defined, and the main output of the cooperation is the future train lines and the basic track configuration. Due to all the constraints, communication has resulted in adjustments to the route at approximately ten locations and currently, the Railway Administration is dealing with sporadic objections to through-tracking. Deputy Director Pinkava also pointed out misinformation and the associated fight against it, with any construction often passed off as HSL construction and inaccurate or false information circulating about HSL operations.
Pavel Hruška, Deputy Director for the preparation of the north region, informed us about the preparation of the cross-border project and international cooperation with DB Netz. The new connection between Dresden and Prague aims to increase capacity and introduce new, available lines. The key indicators of the project are speeds between 200 and 230 km/h for passenger trains and up to 120 km/h for freight trains.
