Between 2022 and 2024, Gramatneusiedl station will be made more attractive, modernized, and fit for the challenges of growing rail operations. Comprehensive technical improvements and modernization of the rail facilities, including the forecourt, are planned. On the occasion of the start of construction, Ludwig Schleritzko, Regional Mobility Councillor of Lower Austria, and Thomas Schwab, Mayor of Gramatneusiedl, broke ground with Judith Engel, ÖBB Infrastructure Director.

Located on one of the most relevant European rail connections, Gramatneusiedl station is central for commuters and freight traffic. The modernization is intended to inspire even more people to use environmentally friendly rail transport.

"With the measures, we are implementing in Gramatneusiedl today, we will also ensure efficient, punctual, and safe rail operations on the Ostbahn tomorrow. The latest technical standards are being applied during the conversion," says Judith Engel, Member of the Management Board of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG.

A modern and safe mobility hub

"The importance of Gramatneusiedl station as a mobility hub for an entire region will be further consolidated by the modernization. It underlines the progress we, as the province of Lower Austria, have made in recent years. The investments in public transport have been steadily expanded, and for both political leaders and the people in our province, the importance of a well-developed public transport network continues to grow," says Transport Provincial Councillor Ludwig Schleritzko.

Also, the new forecourt organization stands completely in the indication of modern mobility: The bus entrance with bus stops will be separated from the remaining traffic and be attainable over a generous footpath and cycle track. A separate access road to the Park & Ride facility will also enable a safe traffic flow around the station. The spacious bicycle parking facilities will complement the offer.

Advantages for rail customers

Train passengers will also benefit from modern information facilities and platform roofs on both island platforms, making for more pleasant stops and waiting times.

Mayor Thomas Schwab welcomes the modernization: "Gramatneusiedl can look forward to an attractive station with increased comfort and a modern appearance. This also strengthens Gramatneusiedl as a business location".

Effects on rail customers

Most of the construction work will take place during ongoing rail operations. During the necessary track work, however, there will be operational restrictions in October and November of this year:

From October 1 to November 27, all trains of lines S60 and REX62, as well as most trains of line REX6 between Vienna Central Station and Bruck/Leitha, will be operated in rail replacement service with buses. In addition, direct buses without intermediate stops will be offered for the REX trains.

Travellers can obtain up-to-date information on the timetable and rail replacement services at www.oebb.at and by calling 05-1717 and on SCOTTY Mobil. The affected communities will be informed in advance.
