The EXPO Ferroviaria 2025 trade fair in Milan concluded today, offering over three days a comprehensive overview of the latest trends in rail transport. The main themes were digitalisation, artificial intelligence, safety, and sustainability. The RAILTARGET editorial team was present on site.

The first day was marked by discussions on railway modernisation. Italian Transport Minister Matteo Salvini and Trenitalia CEO Gianpiero Strisciuglio opened the programme. Meanwhile, Alstom presented a derailment detector, a mobile overhead line system for depots, and a digital Control Room for predictive maintenance.

The second day belonged to Stadler, which unveiled Italy’s first battery-powered train. The unit can save more than 1,300 tonnes of CO₂ annually compared with a diesel vehicle. Another highlight was the debate on risks in underground construction, contract conditions, and standards, with the participation of leading European companies.
