During a state visit to Latvia on April 24, President of Estonia Alar Karis and President of Latvia Egils Levits met with the management of Rail Baltica joint venture RB Rail AS and the national project implementing body Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas to discuss the progress, challenges, and areas that could contribute to the faster implementation and commissioning of the Rail Baltica project.

Marko Kivila, the acting CEO of RB Rail AS, noted that design schedule stabilization is crucial for large-scale mainline construction, planned to begin in sections by the end of this year. Kivila also highlighted the importance of addressing regulatory improvements, funding opportunities, and cross-border and cross-sectoral cooperation. Kaspars Vingris, Chairman of the Board at SIA Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, emphasized the significance of the Baltic states' close cooperation to deliver this unique railway project and a benchmark infrastructure management model.

Rail Baltica management also underscored the project's increasing role in the European security framework as part of the North Sea-Baltic Sea and potentially the Baltic Sea-Black Sea-Aegean Sea transport corridor in the future.

The meeting wrapped up with a tour of the Rail Baltica Riga central node construction site.
