Alstom Chairman and CEO and Chairman of UNIFE (The European Rail Supply Industry Association) Henri Poupart-Lafarge thanked on his LinkedIn profile to SNCF and Jean-Pierre Farandou for hosting the European Railway Summit. He was, among others, participating in the launch ceremony of Europe’s Rail program, together with Adina Valean, EU Commissioner for Transport at European Commission, Henrik Hololei, Director-General of the European Commission's department for Mobility and Transport, and Andreas Matthä, CEO of ÖBB-Holding AG.
There was a full house at SNCF at the launch of Europe’s Rail, even with some political attendees. French, Belgian, German, Slovenian Ministers are present. The main talking points are the launching ceremony of Europe’s Rail programme, ministerial round table, why are railways the solution for greener future, digitalisation and innovation and financing the future of green railway technologies that are a hot topic these days and will be going forward. Full details of the programme can be found here.
Innovation is a central theme of this summit. But it's not all just talk there, an exhibition is organised close to the conference room to present some of those projects and new technologies under development at SNCF and at the European level. It focuses on five key aspects: passengers, operation and driving, territorial mobility, decarbonisation and industrial management of the rail system.
Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU-Rail) was established as of November 19th, 2021. It is the new European partnership on rail research and innovation established under the Horizon Europe programme (2020-2027) and the universal successor of the Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking. It aims to eliminate barriers to interoperability and provide solutions to full integration not only for citizens but for cargo as well. Members from many countries are partaking in this project including both state and private enterprises. A full list of members can be found here.
