The Tourism Committee of the German Bundestag has awarded Fahrtziel Natur with its 2023 Award of Honour. The lead crystal ball was presented at the ITB, the world's largest tourism trade fair, by committee chairwoman Jana Schimke.
Fahrtziel Natur is a cooperation between BUND, NABU, VCD and Deutsche Bahn, aimed at opening up natural areas for guests with intelligent and environmentally friendly mobility concepts. Schimke paid tribute to the long-standing commitment of the partnership and the successful work carried out for over 20 years.

Fahrtziel Natur began in 2001 with six German protected areas and has since grown to 24 areas with a range of sustainable mobility options, offering climate-friendly journeys to rural areas. The project is supported by Destination Nature areas that encourage guests to switch from cars to public transport, relieving sensitive nature areas from car traffic.

The cooperation aims to reduce CO2 emissions and promote the preservation of biodiversity in unique natural landscapes. The award is both an appreciation and an incentive for Fahrtziel Natur to continue its commitment to sustainable mobility and more biodiversity in outstanding protected areas. Deutsche Bahn will christen an ICE train with the name of the respective Destination Nature area in the coming years to mark the award.
