The international trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management, transport logistic, has opened its doors to visitors at the Munich Exhibition Centre for a third day and will run until Friday, 12 May 2023. About 2,300 exhibitors from 67 countries are present at the event, making it more international than in previous years. The fair covers an area of 127,000 square metres in ten halls and other outdoor areas.

The Campus Plaza in Hall B2 serves as a meeting point for established companies and start-ups to present their work together, focusing on topics such as sustainability, alternative drives, start-ups, jobs and career opportunities. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) has its own guest pavilion in Hall A3, where a total of 17 innovative companies from the IT/telematics, e-commerce and telecommunications sectors will be present throughout the event.

The event was opened by the Federal Minister of Transport, Dr. Volker Wissing, who highlighted the key German transport issues during the opening ceremony, with a particular emphasis on an ambitious plan for the swift modernisation of the entire rail network, including repairs, digitisation, and the implementation of ETCS security. Furthermore, he unveiled an impending extension and reform of the toll system, which will now encompass vans over 3.5 tons (excluding registered craftsmen's cars), with toll rates primarily based on CO2 emissions.

On the second day of the fair, Dr. Sigrid Nikutta's appointment as the new chair of the Rail Freight Forward initiative was a notable event, where she emphasized the attainability of a 30% share for freight trains in the continental transport mix through digitalization and automation. Furthermore, the launch of DB Schenker's Circular Economy Logistics product line marked a pivotal moment, demonstrating a strong commitment towards sustainability in logistics and providing comprehensive solutions for customers.

The RAILTARGET editorial team is still available at stand 124 in Hall B5. In our interview studio, partnered by the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic, we are preparing a series of interviews with top managers of the railway sector, so you have a lot to be looking forward to soon.
