The 'Connecting Europe Days' event started yesterday, April 2, 2024, in Brussels, being a gathering spot for more than 2,500 participants from all EU Member States and neighboring third countries, including government officials, financial institutions, industry leaders, and transport experts, alongside the European Commission and aiming to deliberate on achieving a decarbonized, seamless, and digital transport and mobility network within Europe.

According to the European Commission, this year's 'Connecting Europe Days' is focusing on several topics, amongst which are:

  • the launch of the nine new ‘European Transport Corridors’ of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) extending to neighboring third countries, including Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and the Western Balkan partners

  • the resilience of the European transport network to the changing climate
  • connectivity of the European transport network with neighboring third countries and its preparedness for external threats
  • the future of funding and financing opportunities for transport infrastructure projects.

The event also highlights the critical issue of transport connectivity amidst geopolitical tensions, such as Russia's war in Ukraine, which has posed significant risks to the functioning of the EU Single Market. The agenda including discussions on the revised TEN-T Regulation, the future of infrastructure funding, financing opportunities, and infrastructure climate resilience underscores the conference's importance.

There are also notable sessions led by CINEA director Paloma Aba-Garrote and focused discussions on gender equality in fostering the green transition in the transport sector, taking place. Moreover, as part of the event, participants will have the opportunity to explore an exhibition showcasing EU-funded projects that represent cutting-edge transport innovation.
