In the 2021/22 school year, 50 school classes created 780 drawings on the theme of "My journey into the future". On June 24, the pictures selected by a jury were awarded prizes on the forecourt of Linz Central Station. Afterwards, ÖBB whetted the girls' and boys' appetites for a climate-friendly mobile and also professional future. For one morning, they were allowed to admire the driver's cab of an ÖBB traction unit, try out the driver's seat and scan tickets as train attendants.

"Pablo Picasso always emphasized that there is an artist in every child because children paint things as they are meant to be, not as they are seen. Every work of art is, therefore, inspiration on how to make the public transport of the future even more attractive. More than 106,000 children and young people in Upper Austria have a youth, student or apprentice free ticket and are already experiencing relaxed and environmentally friendly travel. This makes me feel positive that this customer group will continue to rely on public transport in the future," says Günther Steinkellner, Provincial Councillor for Infrastructure.

"The award-winning drawings will roll through the country on our ÖBB local and regional trains as a travelling gallery from the start of school," Eva Hackl, Regional Manager of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG in Upper Austria, is pleased to say. "The earlier we get young people excited about trains and buses, the greater the chance that they will only see the car as a second or third choice for their travels or not consider it at all."

"Travel is always an experience and adventure for kids. It's great to see how diverse children imagine their mobile future," Herbert Kubasta Managing Director ÖÖ Verkehrsverbund Organisations GmbH NfG & Co KG LInz said happily: "The winning drawing travels prominently on the outside of the OÖVV bus through Upper Austria."

Norbert Rainer, Managing Director Klimabündnis Oberösterreich GmbH: "This generation is already growing up differently and thinking climate-friendly. Rail, bus and Bim will be a matter of course for them. I am deeply convinced of that."

The winners: "My journey into the future"

The results of the state's major painting competition are impressive. The children have an unconventional view of tomorrow's mobility. The imaginative winning drawing by Sophie Bammer (Mühldorf Elementary School) shows a spherical residential bus boat that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of mobility and rolls or swims decelerated into a green future: "It can drive on land and swim in the water. It has a bedroom, a pool because I love swimming so much, and a built-in clock." The winners were honoured with an ÖBB train trip for the whole family, painting utensils and a class trip with a leisure program. Each school received a fruit tree planted in the schoolyard as a thank you for their participation and commitment.
