RAILTARGET had the exclusive opportunity to interview Mani Entezami, CTO of MoniRail Ltd., in our interview studio at the SEE Mobility 2023 fair in Belgrade. Mr. Entezami spoke about the company's portfolio and innovations and shared their stance on cooperation with the Balkan region.
Could you introduce yourself and your company?
I am Mani Entezami. I am from MoniRail, which is a university spin-out. We are from the University of Birmingham. We spin-out company called MoniRail, which is commercialised truck-monitoring equipment for railways at low cost.
How would you evaluate the cooperation between your institute and the Balkan region?
We have had very exciting conversations so far. We have lots of partners here. I think it is a good opportunity for us to be involved. We have got technical expertise, low-cost materials that can help the railways, and we have got good partners we can work together and make the railways safer and better.
What services and innovations do you currently offer?
We have developed a system that can be mounted on any in-service passenger or freight trains to monitor the track and the ride quality. So, if it is, for example, a freight train, we can understand the load balance and the effect of the load on the suspension. From the suspension, we can go to the track and find out about the track geometry and how the track is affecting the train. All of these can be monitored with our equipment and live. Services can be used to schedule maintenance and understand the effect of maintenance. It is like a measurement train, a bit trimmed down for basically daily purposes, that can do condition monitoring of the truck and the train's performance.
Why did you choose the SEE Mobility 2023 fair to introduce your institution?
We are a startup, we have not been around much. We have worked with some European countries. Balkan is a good area that is developing, so we would like to be a part of that development.
