Since the central warehouse establishment near Kosice in mid-March, ZSSK CARGO has been continuously sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which has suffered from Russia's military aggression. So far, the Slovak carrier has sent 26 freight cars.
Last week, ZSSK CARGO transported eleven wide-gauge railcars in Matovce, from where they continued their way to Uzhgorod and then to Darnitsa station in Kyiv. In March, ten wagons with humanitarian aid were sent, seven of them to Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. It was planned that the first wagon would only pass the border in Uzhgorod, from where the goods would be transferred to warehouses, but the wagons ended up going all the way to Kharkiv.
The wagons carry clothes, sleeping bags, blankets, mattresses, non-perishable food, medicines, and medical supplies.
The Slovak humanitarian aid warehouse is the third in the EU after Poland and Romania and provides invaluable assistance to Ukrainians affected by the war. The warehouse is also available to other countries.
