To improve goods transportation to the European Union, Ukrzaliznytsia is collaborating with Duisburger Hafen to offer a door-to-door service for both Ukrainian and European customers. The first train on the route, running from the Liski CTS terminal in Ukraine to the port of Duisburg, is set to depart this summer. The service aims to transport all types of cargo via rail or road, providing customers with a reliable option to predict transportation costs and delivery times, and avoiding border delays.
"The cooperation with the world’s largest river port allows us to offer new services that will significantly improve logistics for our customers," a representative from Ukrzaliznytsia stated. "Rail transport offers a more environmentally friendly alternative, reducing pollution compared to road transport."
Despite its inland location, the port of Duisburg plays a crucial role in facilitating cargo transport across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Situated near the confluence of the Ruhr and Rhine rivers, approximately 190 kilometers from the North Sea, the port has eight container terminals and is crucial in the global logistics network.
