The national carrier of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia continues to develop international container transport and opens new connections. Earlier this week, September 28 Ukrzaliznytsia dispatched the first container train in the history of independent Ukraine with export cargo on the route Ukraine - People's Republic of China. 43 container set went from the CTS Liski terminal (near Kiev) towards the city of Xi'an.

"In mid-September, we received the 50th container train from China with imported cargo.  Today we are sending the first container train with Ukrainian cargo to China.  We plan that such trains will become regular, "said Oleksandr Kamyshin, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine has great export potential and a new team of the ministry is actively working on its development.  "It is important for us to integrate into the global multimodal transport system, which is rapidly expanding and defining modern logistics.  In the EU, for example, the share of container traffic is around 45%.  In Ukraine, we are talking about only 2.5% ‘‘ states Minister of Infrastructure O. Kubrakov.

At the same time, the Minister of Infrastructure is aware of it and defines what current restrictions block development on the Silk Road the most.  ‘‘ At present, we cannot make full use of the factor of our geographical location, because in fact our railway and port infrastructure is still obsolete.  At the same time, Ukraine cannot ignore the demand and potential of multimodal transport, especially with Asian countries, so modernizing and building infrastructure for the "sea-rail" format will be one of the main tasks of "Large Construction" in the coming years, "said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Ukrainian Infrastructure.

The train to the destination must cover almost 10,000 kilometers through 4 countries.  Estimated travel time is 18 days.
