According to Oleksandr Kamyshin, the Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), the company is considering the establishment of a freight carrier firm that will operate in the European freight sector. Such a company may be set up by the end of 2023.
The need to establish a freight carrier company outside Ukraine is due to the difficulties that Ukrainian freight carriers face when working with European carriers. As a result, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to set up its own freight carrier firm that will be more efficient and effective in providing freight transportation services in Europe.

Kamyshin stated that Ukrzaliznytsia has the capability to be effective in both passenger and freight transportation in Europe. The company aims to establish a carrier firm that will match the schedules and services of European railways, which have been highly rated by citizens who have used their services.
However, the process of setting up a freight carrier company entails several key steps such as purchasing rolling stock, obtaining a license, registration, and recruitment of a team. Kamyshin emphasized that the company is taking every measure to ensure the establishment of the freight carrier firm by the end of 2023, but the pace of approvals in Europe needs to be accelerated.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, Ukrzaliznytsia acquired 40 European railroad tanks as part of a project to supply diesel fuel in Ukraine. The company also plans to acquire 100 fitting platforms as part of its goal to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its freight transportation services.
