Ukrainian Railways and the Republic of Moldova summarized the results of their work in 2022 and agreed to expand cooperation for the next three years. The meeting between the railroad delegations took place last week in Kyiv.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Moldovan railways have become an even more important partner for us. Our neighbours helped us export grain and import much-needed diesel fuel. We strive to further deepen relations and cooperation between our railways," said Oleksandr Kamyshin, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrainian Railways.

Since February 24, 2022, 397 thousand tons of Ukrainian grain have been exported, and 363.6 thousand tons of oil products have been imported through the border crossings with Moldova by rail. Overall, exports increased 1.5 times to 1247 thousand tons, and imports increased three times to 492 thousand tons.
Also, in early November 2022, after a 24-year break, Ukrainian passenger trains resumed running on the Kyiv-Chisinau international route. "Currently, millions of our fellow citizens are forced to live in other countries. It encourages us to look for new routes. Thanks to this train, Ukrainians can get to the international airport in Chisinau to travel further to other countries. More than 10,000 passengers have already used it in three and a half months," said Oleksandr Kamyshin.
According to Oleg Tofilat, Director of the State Enterprise Moldovan Railways, in 2022, the first important steps were taken between Ukraine and Moldova to improve cooperation between the railways. "Already in August last year, the infrastructure of the Berezine-Basarabeasca section, which had not been in operation for a quarter of a century, was restored. During the work, Ukrainian railroaders helped us rebuild our part of this section. The work was completed in record time, just over a month. Therefore, we plan to continue to engage Ukrainian specialists in the repair of the country's railway infrastructure in the future. This will help improve the safety and speed of trains," said Oleg Tofilat.
