Ukrzaliznytsia is imposing a ban on transit rail freight traffic passing through Ukraine towards Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic from 6 December. The same ban will apply in the opposite direction - from EU countries.
This information was confirmed to RAILTARGET by the press department of Ukrzaliznytsia. The ban for transit trains going to Poland is valid from 1 December.
The carrier's spokesperson told our editors that this restriction got preceded due to the ongoing modernization of the railway infrastructure on the territory of Ukraine. The ban does not apply to non-transit trains, the transport of goods from Ukraine will be uninterrupted.
The date of completion of the ongoing work on the Ukrainian railway is not yet known. Now, no one can estimate when transit rail freight traffic through Ukraine will get restored.
