Ukrainian Railways Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) is starting the nationalization of Russian railcars located in Ukraine. The process of nationalization is to take place on the basis of the Law "On the Basic Principles of Compulsory Seizure of Property Rights of the Russian Federation in Ukraine signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, this was announced by the head of the board of UZ Oleksandr Kamyshin.
Currently, 15,000 Russian carriages are stationed on the rail tracks of Ukraine. They are owned by 250 companies. The company acts strongly within the law. At the first stage, Ukrainian railways will prepare the list of owners of carriages, where the Russian Federation is among the founders. Whereas there are only 482 Ukrainian carriages in Russia.
Next steps: Cabinet of Minister’s decision, the National Security and Defense Council decision, the Presidential Decree, and approval of another legislation bill. “ The procedure will take time. Determining which of the carriage owners has a stake in Russia is also a slow task. But we have time and inspiration. Russia's carriages will work for Ukraine's economy. They will be useful, because Ukrainian railways are developing new logistics routes to Europe that will help resume freight operations” – said CEO Oleksandr Kamyshin, in a post on social networks.
