In March, Cargo Slovakia, a. s. (ZSSK CARGO) agreed with Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) to maximize reserves by taking railcars with iron ore over and above schedule and looking for opportunities to increase the intensity and volume of transportation. At the beginning of April, the volumes are already exceeding the planned norm.
Such productive cooperation is not only in the interest of Ukraine but also "customers in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, who are trying to maximize their stocks for as long as possible," said ZSSK CARGO.
In addition, due to the blockade of the Black Sea ports by Russian troops, Ukraine can not transport its agricultural products and is looking for new routes. ZSSK CARGO and Ukrzaliznytsia thus are working to find a solution to increase the capacity of cargo and rail cars through the Slovak-Ukrainian rail border crossings.
"They were also interested in the possibility of transporting fuel in the direction of Ukraine and pumping it into their tanks at the pumping complex in Čierna nad Tisou," ZSSK CARGO reported on the negotiations with Ukrzaliznytsia representatives.
Cooperation between ZSSK CARGO and Ukrzaliznytsia is carried out in working groups under the Ministry of Transport and Construction, which consider options for providing Ukraine with humanitarian aid.
