We are talking about three-car trains with a length of 75 meters, capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h. The trains are equipped with eight powerful engines, with a total power-hitting 3,500 hp. Each train weighs 150 tons and can carry a maximum of 500 passengers and 12 bicycles. Each car has 12 boarding doors and 38 windows. There are 224 seats on board, as well as 26 recliners, two toilets and a changing table, and, of course, free WiFi. To achieve a high level of passenger comfort, 180 LED reading lights and 88 outlets have been installed.

The trains are equipped with CO2 sensors that constantly measure the level of saturation in the cabin and automatically regulate the circulating air, as well as the supply and exhaust air. However, this is not the only contribution to environmental protection that DesiroML trains can boast. For example, the trains are equipped with two types of propulsion systems for cross-border transport, and, thanks to their low friction resistance against the rails, these vehicles move with particular care for the climate. The braking energy is also used and recovered back into the airlines.
Heinrich Dorner, Transport counsellor of the State Burgenland: “With the further improvement and modernization of its train fleet, the GySEV Railway is providing important impetus in the area of the environmentally-friendly mobility. The commuters of Burgenland benefit from a large number of trainsets that can be operated, and from an improved offer of trains on our routes. This will make the railway even more attractive, and there are much more incentives to leave your car at home and switch to the environmentally-friendly train.”
Moreover, they can be supplemented with a fourth car and are ready for further modernization for battery-powered operation.
The trains will be used in the metropolitan area of Vienna extending to Bratislava, as well as in the northern part of Burgenland.
