In June 2021, JSC RZD Logistics (RZDL) — the largest multimodal logistics operator in the CIS and Baltic countries, established in 2010 as a daughter of Russian Railways Holding, plans to send a container train along the North-South international transport corridor.
This was announced by company`s CEO Dmitry Murev during the conference – “Trilogy. Transport. Investments. Logistics”, organized within the framework of SPIEF and transmitted by “Vedomosti”.
Previously, only test shipments of container trains were carried out within the corridor. In June, we plan to launch a test train from Europe to India on the western branch of North-South international transport corridor. We hope that these shipments will become regular overtime, - said Dmitry Murev. "The unfinished section of the railway in Iran does not prevent us from organizing transportation and building an intermodal service." The cargo flow that could be attracted to the ITC "North-South" is mainly consumer goods.
ITC "North - South", connecting St. Petersburg (Russia) and Mumbai (India) has a length of 7.2 thousand. km. The agreement on the establishment of the ITC was signed in 2000 by the countries on whose territories this route will pass - Russia, India and Iran. The main advantage of the corridor compared to other routes (in particular the Suez Canal) is the reduction of two or more times the distance of traffic, as well as reducing the cost of transporting goods.
