Company Tatravagonka Poprad submitted the only valid bid to invest in TŽV Gredelj in the amount of EUR 45 million. This Croatian wagon manufacturer is in bankruptcy proceedings.
There was originally one more offer laid, from the Croatian company Dok-ing from Zagreb. However, this offer was not only 10 million euros lower, but at the same time the company did not provide all of the necessary tender documentation. Therefore, its offer was marked as invalid.
TŽV Gredelj declared bankruptcy already in 2012. It was due to a decrease in orders from the Croatian railways and other clients. However, despite the bankruptcy, it continued the production.
Tatravagonka Poprad is the largest manufacturer of wagons in Europe. In Slovakia, it manufactures wagons in Poprad and Trebišov. However, its ownership also includes the Bratstvo Subotica wagon in Serbia or ZNTK Paterek in Poland. It also included the failing Waggonbau Niesky wagon in Germany in its wagon empire. It also manufactures wagons in ŽOS Vrútky in partnership with Budamar.
