The future of European rail freight just got a serious boost. Siemens Mobility has signed a major agreement with RIVE Private Investment, securing up to 50 new Vectron locomotives for the European market.
The deal includes an initial order of 15 locomotives, along with an eight-year full-service contract—and the option for 35 more locomotives down the line.

This partnership isn’t new. According to the press release, Siemens Mobility and RIVE’s leasing subsidiary, Northrail, have been working together for years. Their latest move? Expanding a fleet that has already logged over a billion kilometers across 16 countries.
More Trains, More Efficiency, More Sustainability
With this latest deal, Siemens Mobility is reshaping the landscape of European rail transport. The Vectron family is designed for flexibility—capable of operating across multiple European rail networks, ensuring that freight moves faster, cleaner, and more efficiently.
And the demand is real. As the EU pushes for more freight on rail, companies are racing to modernize their fleets. The Vectron, already a trusted workhorse in European rail freight, is at the center of this shift.
"Northrail and RIVE Private Investment continue to put their trust in Siemens Mobility, and we’re proud to deliver the technology they need," said Andre Rodenbeck, CEO Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility.
"These new locomotives are crucial for our long-term sustainability and growth," added Michael Trentzsch, Chief Investment Officer at Northrail AG.
A Deal That Sets the Course for the Future
The signing took place just before the handover of the 40th Vectron Dual Mode locomotive from a previous agreement. It’s a clear signal: Siemens Mobility is doubling down on innovation—and Northrail is making sure its fleet is future-proof.
"This agreement cements our strategic position in the railway sector," said Camille Brunel, Partner at RIVE Private Investment. "We’re investing in transport solutions that drive the modal shift and decarbonization of land transport."
What’s Next?
With more than 2,600 Vectron locomotives sold and homologation in 20 European countries, Siemens Mobility has no plans to slow down. These locomotives are already shaping the next generation of rail transport, and with more deals like this, they’re set to play an even bigger role in Europe’s sustainable transport future.
