According to British military intelligence, amid the war in Ukraine, at least six attacks on Russian railways have been carried out since June 2022. Preliminarily, the Russian anti-war group Ostanovi wagon (Stop the Wagon) claims responsibility for this. The reason for this is the crucial importance that the railway plays in transporting military equipment and troops to war zones.

For example, on October 24, an explosive device damaged the railway 15 kilometers from the Russian border with Belarus, where the line is the main railway connection between the aggressor country and southern Belarus. The sabotage was reported by the Russian anti-war group Ostanovi wagon. British intelligence reports that the group is responsible for at least six sabotages in Russia and Belarus, which the occupiers use to attack Ukraine.

Russian occupation forces rely on the railway network to transport personnel and military equipment, which is why such sabotage is critical to the further course of the war. The railway network has 33,000 kilometers of track running through uninhabited areas. It makes it an easy target, as it is extremely difficult to guard properly. Russia is trying to hide the activities of the anti-war group, and the British side believes that in the future the Kremlin will be even more concerned about opposition activities.
