Although the Polish government will not reimburse PKP CARGO for coal transport in 2022, the company has made up for it by winning a billion-dollar tender. With its subsidiary, PKP CARGO Service, it secured a contract to transport coal to TAURON’s Silesian power plants, beating out competitors ČD CARGO and DB CARGO.
The Ministry of State Assets' decision not to compensate PKP CARGO for government-mandated coal transport in 2022, as reported by RAILTARGET, was offset on the same day by the company's success in securing a contract to transport coal to TAURON's Silesian power plants. TAURON, the second-largest electricity producer in Poland, announced that in the tender for coal transport to the Katowice, Tychy, Cieszyn, and Bielsko-Biala power plants for 2025, PKP CARGO, along with its subsidiary PKP CARGO Service, emerged victorious with the lowest bid.
