PKP Cargo International, a member of the PKP Cargo Group, is an international freight transport company. At the end of November, the company started operating a new route between the Slovenian port of Koper and Mělník in the Czech Republic. The transport will continue throughout 2021. On this route containers will be transported.
There is currently operated one train a week. It is planned that the volume of shipments could increase during 2021. As a result, the number of trains would be increased. Through its daughter companies in Hungary and Primol-Rail in Slovenia, PKP Cargo International's intermodal transport is carried out on its own license and only with its multi-system locomotives.
"The development of international transport in the north-south corridor and the direct intermodal connection between the Czech Republic and the ports in the Adriatic Sea is an important part of our strategy for the future. Combined transport and the direct connection of Central Europe to the Slovenian port of Koper have been an integral part of our portfolio of services for many years, we have extensive experience with it and our customers are very satisfied with these transports", said Maciej Walczyk, Chairman of the Board of PKP Cargo International.
This new connection complements other intermodal transports operated by PKP Cargo, namely transports in the north-south corridor from / to Central Europe and the port of Koper, eg. Paskov-Koper or Trnava-Koper. Transportation takes place regularly several times a week.
"The new connection from Koper to Mělník, implemented by the PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL group solely from its own resources, or our other existing railway connections to ports, opens up business opportunities and opportunities for other global logistics operators and carriers shipping containers to European ports“, added Maciej Walczyk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PKP Cargo International.
Intermodal transport is currently a major trend in rail freight. Not only because it saves costs, but it is also much environmentally friendly.
