Personnel changes at the national carrier also affected the Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo, the controlling body of the company. Who was removed from this body, and who are the newly appointed members? RAILTARGET presents you exclusive information on the agenda of the first meeting of the new Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo.

The former head of ČD, Václav Nebeský, has been removed from the Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo. It was expectable given that in mid-February Nebeský also resigned from his position on the ČD Board of Directors with immediate effect.

Another person dismissed is Jan Vrátník, a long-time member of the ČD Supervisory Board. His dismissal wasn't any surprise, as he was also removed from ČD's Supervisory Board in February as part of other personnel changes at the national carrier.

The third person dismissed is Pavel Kysilka. The move was no surprise either. Kysilka led the ČD Supervisory Board as its chairman for two years, but at the end of 2021, he decided to leave this position. There was a gentleman's agreement that the election of the chairman of the ČD Supervisory Board would be the responsibility of the new Minister of Transport, Martin Kupka from ODS. Miroslav Zámečník, a renowned economist, subsequently became the new chairman of ČD's Supervisory Board. The last person to be dismissed was Lukáš Týfa, associate professor at the Transport Faculty of the Czech Technical University.

Who are the new members of the Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo?

Jan Kasal

The first newly appointed member of the Supervisory Board is Jan Kasal, a well-known KDU-ČSL politician. Kasal also has personal experience working for ČD Cargo. After the parliamentary elections in 2010, when he did not defend his seat, he worked for the biggest Czech freight carrier. He held the position of systems specialist and worked in the foreign representation and trade field. He is also a mechanical engineer, so he is close to the railway industry professionally.

Tomáš Vrbík

Tomáš Vrbík is the deputy of the current Transport Minister Martin Kupka. For Vrbík, this post is a comeback to politics. In the past, he was a senior advisor to Prime Minister Petr Nečas, Deputy Minister of the Environment and Director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Finance in the government of Mirek Topolánek. He used to be a member of the US-DEU, but in 2009 he returned to his home party, the ODS.

Michal Kraus

Another newly appointed member of the ČD Cargo Supervisory Board is Michal Kraus, Vice-Chairman of the ČD Board of Directors, who is currently in charge of the national carrier. Kraus was also appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo. Before joining the national carrier, he was the head of Pilsen Municipal Transport Enterprises (PMDP).

Drago Sukalovský

Sukalovský joined the Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo as a nominee of the STAN movement. He is an active party politician and is currently also a long-time mayor of Kuřim. Moreover, he is a member of the South Moravian Regional Council, where he takes the position of Vice-Chairman of the Committee for Interregional Relations, is a member of the Committee for Education, Training, and Employment, and is a member of the Committee for Transport and Spatial Planning.

Two employee representatives, Radek Nekola and Marta Urbancová, also remain members of the Supervisory Board. These two positions remained unchanged.

How did the first meeting of the new ČD Cargo Supervisory Board go?

The Supervisory Board of ČD Cargo was officially appointed this week. Its first-ever meeting has already taken place. What was its agenda? We asked a member of the Supervisory Board, Jan Kasal (KDU-ČSL), "As for me, Tomáš Tóth, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ČD Cargo, showed us a well-prepared presentation of the company. Most of the Supervisory Board members are new, and he introduced us to where Cargo is heading and what services it offers. He also presented how Cargo has grown. It was a great surprise for me how well ČD Cargo operates abroad. We also discussed Cargo's biggest issues. The regular meeting of the Supervisory Board followed, discussing, for example, the report on the Management Board activities and the economic results. We also discussed some investment plans."

RAILTARGET is preparing another report on this topic.
