Norway has announced plans to provide Ukraine with 12 diesel trains to assist with transportation amid the ongoing war, according to Norwegian Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nigord.

As reported by the Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen, four trains are expected to be sent by summer, with a possible additional eight throughout the year. Transportation is crucial for moving materials, food, and civilian aid in Ukraine during these challenging times, and Norway aims to contribute to these efforts.

The trains, which are 40 years old, were requested by Ukraine and are Norske Tog Class 92 (type 92) models. With a capacity of 168 seats and designed for speeds of up to 140 km/h, these trains will be adapted to Ukrainian broad gauge standards before delivery. The transport and preparation costs for the trains are estimated to be between 10-12 million Norwegian kroner.
