Nornickel Polar Division already has had two Class 2TE25KM mainline locomotives since August 2021. Now they are getting a few more from Transmashholding. Specifically, 1 Class 2TE25KM mainline freight diesel locomotive and 3 Class TEM18DM shunting diesel locomotives.

Both types are manufactured in the Bryansk plant and are shipped to Nornickel metals and mining company. Contracts between these two companies for railcars were signed in late 2021.

Class 2TE25KM is a 2-section mainline AC/DC freight diesel locomotive. Its build with at least 90% Russian-made components. The locomotive is designed with the crews in mind as it can maintain optimal microclimate inside the driver cab in any weather.

One Class TEM18DM was shipped to Nornickel Polar Division, the other two were shipped to Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company, that is part of Nornickel. The company plans to purchase up to 15 Class TEM18DM railcars till 2025 as part of the “Big Copper Project”.
