The new intermodal link will serve as an open rail system. The connection between Germany and Italy will connect two modern railway terminals. One is the German combined transport terminal in Duisburg-Hohenbudberg, operated by TX Logistik and two other partners, such as Ziel Terminal GmbH and Italy's Interporto Padua, which annually transports approximately 275,000 TEU by road and rail.
The Duisburg-Padua connection is intended to help expand the European network. TX Logistik sees the advantage of the new connection in the fact that the Veneto region will be connected by rail with Germany, the region's primary trading partner. As the city of Padua is approximately 25 km from Venice, the new connection will help Germany connect by the sea with the Balkan states.
