The multimodal terminal in Mošnov, which was built near the Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport, welcomed its first freight train on Sunday, August 14. This terminal provides a rail link directly to Ostrava Airport and will also help transfer more freight traffic from road to rail.

From Interporto d'Abruzzo, Italy, near Pescara, the first train arrived yesterday at the multimodal terminal in Mošnov near Ostrava. The Slovak carrier LOKORAIL brought 32 trailers on 16 wagons from Arcese Trasporti, which recently established a new freight transport link between Italy and the southern part of Poland. It will also use the services of the Mosnów terminal during its journey.

This service should now operate regularly twice a week and be operated by Captrain Italia (in Italy), ČD CARGO (in Austria) and LOKORAIL (in the Czech Republic), with Czech carriers also participating. In the future, the services of the terminal should also be used by the transport company MSC. And from autumn onwards, freight train traffic should start to increase at the terminal.

In the future, the Mošnov terminal is likely to become a very busy place due to its location. Not only is it close to three Central European countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia) but also located on a planned section of the New Silk Road. The big thing may be to make freight transport more efficient so that it does not have such an environmental impact due to the multimodality of the whole terminal. In fact, it can transfer more freight to rail from the road.
