Move Intermodal was established in 1986 under the auspices of Ewals Cargo Care and was the first Belgian transport company to launch its rail shuttle from Genk (BE) to Novara (IT).

The company is rapidly growing in the logistics supply chain such as the introduction of the bulk container in the bag, modern storage facilities and progresses with the first synchromodal solution. Growing demand for transport across Europe is also leading to the introduction of new rail corridors between Antwerp, Duisburg, and northern Italy.

In June 2011, the current organization was founded as Ewals Intermodal, and in June 2014, the fully independent Move Intermodal was organized.

Meanwhile, the intermodal network has been expanded to the most important economic areas in Europe (Spain, Great Britain, Scandinavia, Turkey, etc.). In addition, Move Intermodal is investing in its fleet, expanding the freight unit fleet and the Chemelot railway terminal in Geleen (NL).

Today the high professionalism of the company experts and the quality of the provided intermodal logistics services are well known in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Switzerland, Finland, etc.

Tomas Tempelaars Chief eXcellence Officer (CXO) Move Intermodal was so kind to answer some questions from our editorial office and tell us more about the company.

“Move Intermodal is an intermodal transport operator. We provide door-door transport solutions to our customers in the dry bulk sector as well as for conventional packed cargo.

We own an intermodal load unit fleet of about 2800 units, consisting of dry bulk containers, 45ft pallet wide HC containers, 45ft curtain sides swap bodies with integrated coil well for the safe transportation of steel coils.

We operate trains and use the connections of different rail and ferry operators. We are not a railway undertaking thus we do not own any locomotives or wagons.

Our aim is to maximize the intermodal advantages for our customers and carry out transports with the longest/possible intermodal connection thus saving maximum carbon emissions. (Contributing significantly to the Fit for 55 directive of the European Commission)

With regards to specifically Eastern Europe.

We have rail connections in our intermodal network between the Benelux/Ruhr area from/to Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania. From the Benelux we are able to further connect to other locations South, North and Western Europe.”
