On 1 December 2021, METRANS, a.s., a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), took delivery of two more Siemens Vectron MS multi-system locomotives, which it ordered in 2020 based on the 2019 offer. METRANS is known as a leading provider of intermodal transport in Europe and operates several rail terminals. METRANS increasingly counts on its traction and currently owns 14 Vectron MS locomotives. The gradual delivery of 6 more vehicles will get completed in spring 2022. The deployment of the new locomotives gets planned for cross-border operations in the CEE region.
"We are delighted to expand the METRANS fleet with ten Siemens Mobility Vectron multi-system locomotives. This underlines our ambition to grow the company further and to be able to be more flexible to fulfill our customers' requests. We chose Vectron locomotives because they are modern, completely safe, and environmentally friendly," said Peter Kiss, CEO of METRANS Group.
"METRANS has become the operator of the largest number of Vectron MS electric locomotives in the Czech Republic and is thus making a significant contribution to the decarbonization of transport in the CEE region where the locomotives get used. That is mainly due to their interoperability, saving time and costs when crossing national borders." says Roman Kokšal, CEO of Siemens Mobility Czech Republic, and adds: "The locomotives will get delivered with ETCS train protection according to the basic specification 3. They are therefore fully prepared for operation on lines with this level of security."
The locomotives for METRANS have a power output of 6,400 kW and reach a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h got equipped with the necessary national train protection systems, including the European ETCS signaling system according to Baseline Specification no. 3. Compared to Baseline Specification no. 2, which gets currently used in most countries, ETCS with Baseline Specification 3 offers many new features. Among other things, a generic braking curve model has got implemented.
The locomotives currently delivered to METRANS approved for operation in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Romania. Future upgrades to the system are possible for operation in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Serbia.
To this date, Siemens Mobility has sold more than 1,137 Vectron locomotives, including 746 Vectron MS locomotives, to 56 customers in 16 countries. The fleet of Vectron locomotives has reached more than 490 million kilometers to date. Locomotives based on the Vectron platform got approved for operation in 20 European countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and Denmark).
METRANS Rail s.r.o. is a licensed carrier for the Czech Republic and Slovakia with a valid safety certificate. As a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), METRANS, together with its sister companies from the METRANS Group, provides transport in Germany, Austria, Poland, and Hungary. Metrans deals with contractual partners in other European countries with a single locomotive that runs across Europe without locomotive replacements at the borders. That, of course, reduces time and lowers the costs. Speed and reliability are the company's benefits.
