HHLA METRANS has announced its plan to increase the productivity of hub terminals by installing new rail-mounted gantry cranes. The first one is the new crane at the Slovak terminal Dunajská Streda, which started operating on 21 April.
The crane will increase transhipment capacity and provide repair and maintenance support, thereby reducing possible downtime from 33% to 25%. The remaining two cranes will reinforce the terminals in Ceska Trebova in the Czech Republic and Budapest in Hungary.
"With the new technology, METRANS is preparing for the continued increase in rail transport, especially in the markets in Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria. On the one hand, we are increasing the terminals' performance - their throughput capacity and their potential to manage higher peak loads. On the other hand, we are also bolstering our entire 19-terminal intermodal network," stated Peter Kiss, CEO of the Metrans Group.
