As part of METRANS' constant efforts to improve and expand its service portfolio, the company is pleased to inform everyone that it launches a new regular service that will connect the Polish Port of Gdaňsk with one of the major Czech industrial agglomerations, the North Moravian Ostrava.

METRANS has been observing an increasing number of requests to operate this service for a long time, and they also perceive very positively the growing potential of DCT GDAŇSK, the Baltic Hub. The launch of the new regular service will not only expand METRANS’ activities in Poland but will also create a long-awaited connection of Polish ports to the METRANS intermodal network. The connection of the DCT Gdaňsk container terminal with the METRANS transport network will represent a new quality element for serving many regions available through our network. The company is convinced that this product has the potential for further growth of sea transport to/from Asia, but also for Scandinavia and the Baltics.

This new service will complement their already existing connections with European ports, and will also offer and open another major transport corridor. This aspect is especially important in today’s difficult times when the term “congestion” accompanies us every step of the way. The extension and diversification of transport routes will certainly be a suitable tool and will help cope with the current difficult period of disrupted supply chains. METRANS' Ostrava container terminal will thus become a gateway to the entire METRANS intermodal network, but also, imaginarily, a gateway to the entire CEE area. Their integrated transport network will enable the efficient transportation of full containers throughout Central Europe, as well as offer logistics solutions for the transportation of empty containers and enable the optimization of the flow of containers destined for storage and their exchange between different regions.

The new service is a high-quality service at its BEST:

• Train length 750 m instead of the usual 650 m
• Train carrying capacity of up to an incredible 112 TEUs!

METRANS is planning to launch the service at the beginning of September this year. The first scheduled departure of the train from Ostrava is on 5 September 2022, with a frequency of 3 times per week between METRANS Ostrava DCT Gdaňsk and vice versa with a short stopover at METRANS Dabrowa Gornicza container terminal.
