The Lithuanian Railways (LTG) Group did not comply with the requests of three Belarusian companies to transport potassium fertilizers. Commission on the application submitted by Lit Salt Trade for the transportation of Belaruskalij products.
After LTG informed Belaruskalij about the government's decision to invalidate the contract held by the companies as of February 1, applications got received from three unauthorized Belarusian companies - Belorusskaja kalinaja kompanija (BKK), Belintertrans, and Belkali-Migao - for the transportation of potassium fertilizers. . All of them got based on different arguments. LTG applied to the Coordinating Commission for the Protection of Objects Important for Ensuring National Security. A request from Lit Salt Trade was later received.
While the commission is examining the submitted documents, LTG has decided not to take any action on BKK's request to conclude a contract for the transportation of fertilizers. The authorities rejected the demands of the other two applicants because they applied for the carriage of goods under contracts that were no longer in force or did not have contracts with LTG. Given the arguments put forward by the three companies, LTG could refuse to comply with their requests or take no action on them. The government has decided to terminate the contract between LTG and Belaruskalij in 2018. LTG will need a sustainable legal basis to refuse to transport Belarusian potassium fertilizers and thus stop their transit through Lithuania. However, there is no explicit ban on the transportation of potassium fertilizers under other contracts. LTG also applied to the Coordination Commission for the Protection of Objects Important for Ensuring National Security regarding Lit Salt Trade's request to transport Belaruskalij salt and potassium fertilizers. A decision on this request has not yet been taken.
January 25, LTG received more new applications for the transportation of Belaruskalij fertilizers, submitted by the company Belintertrans Baltik. LTG will also address these applications to the commission. Some time ago, LTG informed the Belarusian company Belaruskalij about the government's decision to declare the contract concluded in 2018 invalid. Belaruskalij refused to approve Belaruskalij 's applications for the transport of fertilizers in February.
