Viking Train is a joint project of the Lithuanian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Georgia, Azerbaijani railways, port loading companies, and the ports of Klaipeda, Odessa, and the Black Sea, connecting the Baltic, Black, and Caspian Seas by rail. The contribution of the subsidiary LTG Cargo to this project is particularly important for its development and efficiency. As the provision of services on the initial and final route points to one group of companies improves service quality, speeds up freight communication, and expands first and last-mile services.
In the first ten months of 2021, 31,247 TEUs got transported by Viking Train in Lithuania, which is even 22% more than in the same period last year.
The desire to develop a direct intermodal train got conceived in 1999. Back in 1999, the Ministers for transport of Lithuania and Ukraine signed the Memorandum of joint permission. Transporting cargo in containers is the most perspective mean of services expansion due to its adaptable disposition. Clients get a chance of saving up to 30% of their funds by cooperating with Viking Train. EU/CIS border crossing time for the train: 30 min.
Over the last 17 years, Viking Train has covered roughly 4,5 million km and has hauled more than 580 thousand TEU.
- In 2009 Viking Train was awarded by European Intermodal Transport Association with Best Practice Intermodal Project.
- In 2011 Viking Train brand was patented. The project has a strong potential to expand into new conceptual markets of Asia, Caucasia, and Scandinavia.
- · In April 2014, combined transportation Viking Train got acknowledged as the best Green Logistics and Intermodal Transportation project in the European Union. The Viking Train got rewarded with the scientific research program BestFact award.
