LTG Cargo Polska Expands into Germany Following Safety Certification

LTG Cargo Polska will now be able to operate trains independently in Germany after securing a General Safety Certificate. The approval removes the need for external operators on German routes and gives the company greater control over services linking Lithuania, Poland and Germany.

LTG Cargo's Polish subsidiary received a General Safety Certificate in Germany. The approval allows LTG Cargo Polska to operate independently on the German rail network, giving the company greater control over international freight services and strengthening connections between the Baltic states, Poland and Germany.

"This is a significant achievement for the LTG Group and the entire Lithuanian transport and logistics sector. I am pleased that Lithuanian companies are consistently strengthening their positions in international markets. As the geography of transport services continues to expand westward, Lithuanian Railways is opening up more and more opportunities for new markets and further expansion," said Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Transport Roderikas Žiobakas.

Greater Control Over the Duisburg–Kaunas Corridor

According to LTG Cargo CEO Eglė Šimė, the new certificate marks an important step in strengthening logistics corridors between Germany, Ukraine and the Baltic states.

"Our priority is the quality of the regular intermodal route Duisburg–Kaunas–Duisburg. The certificate obtained by LTG Cargo Polska allows us to manage the entire route ourselves, from loading in Lithuania to unloading in Germany, which ensures even greater delivery reliability for our customers," she said.

Last year, LTG Cargo Polska also used EU funding to purchase new pocket wagons for intermodal transport on the Duisburg–Kaunas route. The expanded fleet is expected to improve both the efficiency and reliability of operations.

Expansion Across Europe Continues

The latest certification follows several important milestones in LTG Cargo's international expansion.

In 2024, the company obtained carrier licences in Latvia and Estonia, enabling freight transport from Lithuania to Estonia without changing locomotives.

Earlier this year, in April, LTG Cargo also received an NCAGE code, allowing the company to participate directly in NATO procurement programmes. Together with LTG Cargo Polska's new German operating approval, this is expected to simplify the transport of allied military equipment and other project cargo across Europe.

Growing Fleet Supports International Operations

Alongside its regular Duisburg–Kaunas–Duisburg intermodal service, LTG Cargo Polska also transports petroleum products between Poland and Germany.

The company currently employs 130 people and operates a fleet of more than 350 European-gauge wagons and 20 locomotives, including modern Siemens locomotives designed for international freight operations.

LTG Cargo continues to expand its presence in Western European markets by providing freight transport, logistics, freight forwarding, wagon leasing and rolling stock maintenance services. In addition to its Polish subsidiary, the company also operates LTG Cargo Ukraine.
