LTG Cargo has completed its first all-European car transport, reaching an important point in the company’s efforts to expand its services across Europe. A total of 220 new Škoda cars, bound for the Baltic market, were transported by a train of 22 carriages from the Czech Republic to Palemona, Lithuania.
LTG Cargo Expands International Transport with Successful Car Delivery
According to Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo, this project is a direct result of the company’s strategic focus on expanding its international transport network. "The biggest rail freight shippers are in the oil, mineral products, and plant-based sectors, but we are constantly looking for solutions for other commodities," Šimė said. "This project helps us meet our goal of growing international transport while offering a sustainable and competitive solution to our customers." The transport of 220 cars by train replaced the need for 25-30 road trucks, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to more sustainable logistics.
LTG Cargo's Collaborative Effort with International Partners
The success of this transport was made possible through collaboration with key partners. The rail transport was handled by ČD Cargo, the Czech rail freight company, while the final distribution of the cars from the terminal in Palemona was managed by AV Terminal. Martynas Keršys, Director of AV Terminal, pointed out the importance of the project for enhancing Lithuania’s position as a gateway to the Baltic region. "We are pleased to contribute to the development of new routes that utilize Europe’s established rail network," Keršys said, noting that the cars would be further serviced and delivered to customers in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

LTG Cargo and Lithuania’s Strategic Role for the Baltic Region
Lithuania’s geopolitical importance as a strategic gateway to the Baltic region has only increased, particularly with the ongoing development of Rail Baltica. The Rail Baltica project, which connects Lithuania with Latvia and Estonia, will become the largest rail project in the region’s history, linking major cities like Kaunas, Riga, and Tallinn to the broader European rail network. This project is crucial not only for economic resilience but also for enhancing NATO’s operational readiness, as RAILTARGET previously reported.

During a recent visit to the Rail Baltica construction site, NATO officials recognized the dual-purpose nature of the project. As Colonel Peter Nielsen of the Danish Army noted, while the project serves civilian purposes, it also plays a critical role in military mobility, enhancing NATO's ability to deploy forces quickly in the region. The rail network is expected to significantly improve Lithuania’s security by facilitating the swift movement of military equipment across borders.
Growing Demand for Enhanced Rail Infrastructure
As LTG Group CEO Egidijus Lazauskas pointed out, there has been a 40% increase in NATO military train arrivals in Lithuania over the past year. The FREE Rail program is central to these developments, focusing on modernizing rail systems, IT infrastructure, and operational standards, reinforcing Lithuania’s strategic role in European defense and ensuring the readiness of the region’s logistics and security frameworks.
