The new connection will make it possible to transport larger volumes of goods previously transported by road. LTG Cargo will launch an intermodal container good train between the Kaunas intermodal terminal and Slavkov in Poland in mid-February. This terminal is located near Katowice and is a vital node of the Polish broad gauge rail network, connecting rail lines between Lithuania and Poland and Ukraine and Poland. From Slavkov, there are also regular rail connections to Germany, Slovenia and Italy.

The new Kaunas-Slavkov route is 740 km long and has a capacity of up to 93 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) per trip. The planned connections between Lithuania and Poland would be served by two pairs of trains weekly. On request, freight could also be transported to the port of Klaipeda. LTG Cargo will provide the cargo in Lithuania, and LTG Cargo Poland, a subsidiary of LTG Cargo, will operate the service in Poland.
"We continue to focus on diversifying westwards and expanding our network of freight transport connections in the west. This new connection will allow us to transfer even more goods now transported by road between Lithuania and Poland to rail. Thanks to the intermodal rail service, it will be possible to efficiently distribute even single containers of our customers for further transport to other major terminals in Poland and Europe, and, thus, more and more carriers will be able to choose more sustainable logistics solutions," says Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo.
