Lithuania is stepping up controls on arriving trains from Belarus LTG Infra, the administration of Lithuania's public railway infrastructure has announced a tender for the installation of an X-ray scanner for trains at the Kena railway station near the border with Belarus. The main reason is the restriction of cigarette smuggling from Belarus.
"We understand that due to the geopolitical situation, we need to install an X-ray inspection system at Kena Station as soon as possible. We are responsible for installing the infrastructure needed for the X-ray equipment, so we actively work with government, customs, and equipment suppliers to ensure the quickest possible project implementation, ” said Karolis Sankovski, CEO of LTG Infra.
In the open tender, concerning the unusual tone of the project, a minimum deadline for the submission of tenders was set - 7 days. The trustworthiness of the winning company or group of companies and the terms of the contract will probably still have to be evaluated by the Government National Security Commission. It is expected the contract with the supplier is going to be signed by the end of this year.
Tenderers can submit bids until 12 November by noon.
