In the northwest area of the Black Sea lies Odessa, one of its most important ports. And it is in Odessa where HHLA (Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG) has one of its subsidiaries, Container Terminal Odessa (SC CTO).

The terminal is a high-tech complex with a capacity of 850 000 TEU per year. It is equipped with the Container Terminal Information System (CTIS). It includes all modern EDP container terminal management. Loading and discharging operations, vessel service, operations with railway wagons and trucks. It permits to conveniently plan the schedule of calls, loading and discharging operations, record receiving, issuing, and storage of containers. It also allows agents and forwarders to look up the information regarding their cargo. The terminal has an area of 172,000 sq. m. + 195,000 sq. m. (QM project), storage capacity of approx. 25,000 TEU and rail track inside the terminal in the length of 1,800 m.

The terminal has a reefer yard with 400 fixed and 180 mobile plugs. Additionally, there is a berth in the length of 310 m and a depth of 12,5 m. This berth is equipped with 3 gantry cranes, STS crane “Liebherr” Super-Post-Panamax, SWL 65 tons under spreader (twin-lift), and 75 tons under hook.

There is also various yard handling equipment i.e. reach stackers, RMG (rail-mounted gantry crane), RTG (rubber-tired gantry crane), forklifts, and truck trailers.

It is trying to set a standard for quality and sustainability. HHLA has operated this largest and most modern container terminal in Ukraine since 2001 and has handled containers, bulk, general, and project cargo. HHLA has invested over 170 million US dollars in the past 20 years. Including investments doubling the rail traffic capacity to support container rail services in Ukraine.
