GATX Rail Europe celebrates the 1,000th 119m³ multi-purpose champion gas railcar – formally known as Zags, GATX type 7598.
Just two years ago, they reported that the state-of-the-art, efficient, and versatile gas railcar was a favorite among customers. At that point, GATX had over 500 Zags in our fleet, leased to over 20 customers. Nowadays, the 1,000th Zags, coincidentally also the 5,000th gas railcar, is ready to leave its place of birth, the in-house workshop in Ostróda (WSO -Wagon Service Ostróda), to DOW Europe GmbH, GATX's client in Germany.
Elisabeth Jilli, Head of Sales & Service at GATX Rail Europe shares, “With our 1,000th multi-purpose champion gas railcar, we have doubled our 119m³ railcar fleet in just a little over two years and are ready to meet the demand for it.”

The GATX Zags is fully optimized and a multi-purpose gas car. The railcar has a low tare weight, crash buffers, and a strong tank head, to name a few of its optimized and safety features. It is simple and safe to load and unload, and its reduced tare weight allows a payload increase.
As with all GATX's railcars, the newly assembled multi-purpose champion Zags are fully equipped with the standard telematics solution, which customers can upgrade to include extra sensors and data.
