The Port of Trieste is a large seaport on the upper Adriatic and one of the most important ports in Europe. As such, it forms an important hub for European freight traffic and plays a key role in transport from and to the Far East. The Rail Cargo Group has been operating regular triangular services between Trieste and Austrian terminals in both directions for years. To cope with the high volume of customers and partners at the terminals Vienna South and Linz Stadthafen and to offer customers easier handling of their transports, RCG has converted the existing triangular connection to two direct trains.

The two new connections, TransFER Vienna–Trieste and TransFER Linz–Trieste, now operate with two weekly round trips each, fixed schedules and attractive transit times between Austria and the Adriatic port.
