Alstom has secured an additional order worth nearly EUR 590 million from SNCF Voyageurs for 15 new-generation Avelia Horizon very high-speed trains.

The new trains ordered comply with European traffic regulations, and the portfolio of the Avelia Horizon family caters to the rail sector's competitiveness and profitability for SNCF Voyageurs, with a total acquisition cost that is 20% less than the previous generation.

The two innovative, short-length, high-performance, and compact-power cars, together with the articulated double-deck coaches, form the Avelia Horizon portfolio that is capable of accommodating up to 740 passengers, an increase of 20% in passenger capacity. These new trains will have over 30% lower maintenance costs than the existing ones, with components that have been optimized to simplify and reduce maintenance interventions, along with remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance that enhances their reliability and availability. The new high-speed trains' aerodynamic design and more efficient traction technology will enable them to consume 20% less energy than the current generation.

Alstom's President of France, Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, emphasized the importance of this order, stating that it seals the success of Avelia Horizon high-speed trains and how the solution addresses the economic and technological challenges of SNCF while meeting the strong passenger demand for low-carbon mobility solutions. This order completes the 100-train agreement under the Avelia Horizon innovation partnership framework for the new generation of very high-speed trains, allowing commercial operation in France.
