The uniform safety certificate is obligatory for all railway undertakings whose activity comes down to transporting freight and/or passengers, irrespective of whether their activity is limited to providing traction only. The certificate is proof that the railway undertaking has established its safety management system and is capable of fulfilling its legal obligations.
It is issued and valid for a defined area of operation, i.e. the network or networks within one or more EU Member States where the railway undertaking intends to operate. In the case of EP Intermodal, its area of operation is the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.
